A Twenty Acre Island Retreat -

Thorofare Island is a privately owned 20 acre island in the Penobscot River in Greenbush, Maine. It is on the map. This island is covered with first-growth hardwood trees. The island is about 600’ from a public boat landing on Route 2, a major state road. There is a general store about 8 miles north on Route 2 and a small town about 10 miles south on Route 2.

Accommodations:

Rent the entire island for yourself, family, friends, their kids & the dogs. There’s plenty of room for tents and room to roam. The 2010 rental season starts May 31st and ends October 31st. There is a 2 week limit on the rental agreement & minimum of 3 days. A ‘week’ is 6 days. Stay 2 weeks and get one day free. Check-in is at 1:00 pm and check-out is at 1:00 pm.

Amenities:

Camp that will sleep at least two adults and a child. Equipped with double bed, a daybed & loveseat; kitchen area, propane stove, fire extinguisher, ice chest, pots, pans, dishes, first aid kit, etc. You only need supply your food & drinks.
Free standing fireplace
Bathroom containing a composting toilet & shower stall that will accommodate a camp shower. River water is available for bathing, dishes & laundry.
Hand cranked washing machine & clothesline.
Small supply of general store items & souvenirs available.

Outdoors:

FISHING! Best bass fishing this side of the Mississippi!
Canoe, paddles & PFDs
Hibachi & a grate for outdoor cooking.
Fire pit with stump seats
Adult swing, Horseshoes
Large screen house with picnic table & gas grill inside
Hammocks

For the Children:

Tree house will sleep 2 (children or adults). Tire swing, Disk swing, Seesaw, Cargo Net (for climbing)

Terms:

The cost is $1,500. per week. Split the cost with as many people as you like. $300 deposit upon reservation that is fully refundable if reservation is cancelled more than 30 days in advance. If cancelled more than 14 days in advance, $150 is refunded. If cancelled within 14 days, the deposit is not refundable. Please reserve as early as possible.
